Private Rented Accommodation

Private rented accommodation is an option you may consider if you want a new home, but aren't in high priority need. There are lots of ways you can find accommodation to rent privately:

Newspapers

Local newspapers carry advertisements for private rented flats and houses.

Notice Boards and Shop Windows

Local shops and newsagents often advertise properties to rent in their windows. These can change frequently, so it's a good idea to regularly look in shops in the areas you are interested in living in.

Estate Agencies and Lettings Agencies

Local Estate Agencies and Lettings Agencies often manage accommodation for private landlords. Agencies advertise in the local press, Yellow Pages and Thomson Local Directories. Finding accommodation through an agency can be expensive as they usually ask for a security deposit and rent in advance.

People you know

Friends, family and workmates can also be a help in finding out about rooms or flats to let. It's a good idea to let everyone know that you are looking for somewhere to live.

It can sometimes take a while to find somewhere that's right for you, so be prepared to keep looking, even if you don't find what you want straight away.
